Recruiting From Home: How to Showcase Your Institution

While much of the recruitment process remains nearly the same between hiring in-person and remotely, there are some critical aspects that may need rethinking. Most importantly, you need to ensure that you are and can effectively showcase your institution's campus, culture and spirit through Zoom/Skype meetings, phone calls and emails.

Here are a few ideas for how hiring managers and recruiters can successfully convey the unique aspects of their institution to best ensure their school will be the candidates' top choice.

GIVE PERSONAL SKYPE TOURS OF THE CAMPUS AND WORKSPACE.
Assuming you, as the hiring manager or recruiter, are allowed on campus, take your prospective candidates on a virtual tour. For large campuses, focus on the spaces where these applicants would primarily work and then share the institution's virtual campus tour as a supplemental resource.

ORGANIZE ONLINE COFFEES WITH COLLEAGUES AND STUDENTS.
Create opportunities for your candidates to meet people outside of the hiring committee who can talk about the institution's culture and put a face to the motto.

SHARE THE BEST SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS AND VIDEOS.
If your institution has an awesome Instagram account and promotional video, then highlight them early on in your communication with your candidates -- don't hope, but rather guarantee, your candidates will find them on your institution's website.

TALK WITH YOUR ADMISSION AND DEVELOPMENT TEAM MEMBERS.
They have spent the year converting in-person events to remote experiences and should be able to share a range of effective online tools and methods for recruiting remotely.

By implementing a few of these recommendations, your candidates will gain a much better understanding of why you love your college or university and why it could be the perfect next step in their career.
